And the Irish Travelling community, as they are known, now live in houses, as opposed to caravans, for the most part. Some are heavily involved in all sorts of crime, particularly the drug trade, and the resulting headlines from arrests has contributed to all being tarred with the one brush, in a negative way. Discrimination against them was widespread until fairly recently.
We have our Gypsy community here in Ireland. And have a lot of Romanian immigrants coming here since the mid 90s. There are a lot of cultural differences between both communities.
