“Millennials Will Change the World”
Okay….tall order.
So, us millennials….
My fellow millennials, Push this button to save the world.
us and Gen-Z get to be heroes because we “grew up with the heroe’s journey”. Who didn’t? The heroe’s journey is a tale as old as time. It didn’t start with Luke Skywalker or Frodo Baggins or Solid Snake it started with Odysseus and Homer and the Iliad and King Arthur. It doesn’t take a history major to know Odysseus and Homer’s Iliad predate even the oldest living human beings.
Calling us screen obsessed and lazy isn’t constructive. I’ll grant this Allegis article has its heart in an okay place by admitting that much and calling out the merits on display through a sample set of young upwardly motivated people.
It’s adorable how some will say such nice things and encourage us to have a can-do attitude.
We got you covered. We’ll do whatever we can. All things being equal, the true potential may be limited and localized.
But let’s be real here. To entrust the fate of the world we know and love to one or two generations of young and beautiful and clever individuals is foolhardy.
Maybe we are the best equipped generation. Maybe each and every one of us is a born leader with more potential than our parents or their parents but we can also waste all that potential over the next ten decades spinning our wheels in the rutted road ahead if our forebears don’t maintain the surfaces of the asphalt meadows and the pathways that they built.
Millennials and Z’s can lead the way. But who are we leading and how? Is it a willing mass of able bodies from all ages and walks of life? Or will we end up subjugating, indoctrinating, and assimilating the next generation born? Will we induct them into the role of cannon fodder? It’s possible. Something is possible. A brighter cleaner future will happen. Sure. But at what cost?
So here’s raising a glass to future prosperity!
May us young people do things that need to be done right as ethically, efficiently, and effectively as humanly possible.
We’re on it. Trust us. We won’t lead you wrong. ;)
